The Versatile 70s coffee table

Coffetables can certainly tell us very much about the era. Leonard conceptualised this piece which has a well in the centre to contain decorative or functional objects. It can be placed in many ways. You can see that there's great versatility. The 70s makes a bold statement and this piece is inspired by Savaldor Dali :-)

AVANT GARDE SOFA

Besides the classic 70s wood arm rests with square two-piece cushions of three rows for the sofa, there are many avant garde pieces of very nicely designed pieces from the Retro generation. It came with a touch of the whimsical and some say, even bothering on the pompous. But whatever it is, they are unmistakably arty. It is both functional and aesthetic. Form co-exists very nicely with Function. Here is one ORIGINAL piece which i conceptualised, inspired by the 70s era.

Concept Piece, inspired by the 70s

The Tan family has just moved in! And they chose a RETRO theme. Over the next few days, their interior will slowly yet surely be developed as they shop for this umistakably 70s design. The 70s was in many ways a loud iconic era. Simple yet not simplistic, carefree yet complicated. It remains a mystery for a boy growing up in this psychelic era. These two furniture pieces are inspired by the clean, simple, whole-piece design of the period. Made from air-dry clay. The wallpaper design is of course very typical of that apparently mish-mash genre.

Retro has Returned!

Tomorrow i will kickstart a series of nostalgic symbols from the era of the hippies, Ago-go and Retro everything. The era reminds me of my growing up years, watching my family's black and white TV, and later, the Telefunken Colour (CRT) TV. It also brings me back to the simple world of simple pleasures and pastimes. In the rapidly industrialisng country of Singapore back then, communications, transport and business interactions took a considerable amount of time; but no one was complaining - Everyone had the same amount of time. The 70s symbols are all handmade in clay of course. Psychelically yours, Leonard.

Varnishes for Air-Dry Clay

Hi everybody! I was just talking about varnishing your air-dry clay creations a while ago. The varnish that i currently use is by FolkArt and they are available at most good art supply stores. What's featured here are three types: The Matte Sealer - it does a good job of preventing mildew to form. If you don't need a glossy look, this will do just fine.
The other two types give you the high shine. As in all aerosol-type sprays, make sure your ventilation is very good when you do the spraying. This can mean going outdoors to spray :-)

Varnish your Jumping Clay

From experience, i have discovered that the Jumping Clay from Korea may gather mould (mildew) if put in an environment where humidity is high. This perfectly describes Singapore weather. Take a look at the penguins which i did about two to three years ago. They have gathered mould
This pair here, standing on top of an igloo, has been wiped. The lesson to learn is to spray CLEAR varnish on it. There are many brands in the market. Spray a layer, in a well-ventilated area, then leave it to self-dry, then spray another coat, taking care not to spray too close or the coating of varnish on that spot will be thicker than the rest. Then, after about 12 hours, the figurine will be protected from all manner of weathering. I will show you some varnishes in the next post.
