Project Horse

The horse sculpture is done using DAS air-dry clay and currently sitting at an unobstrusive corner in my study. It is not varnished yet, and i have plans to spray white paint before spray-coating clear varnish. I am waiting for it to dry completely.

While waiting, i have documented to a large extent, the process. Watch it on Youtube or click on this link:

White Horse

Weighing a few kilos, with a height of about 32 plus cm and with a width of 20 plus cm and one of my favourite projects in my air-dry clay collection is this white horse which took me about 7 hours. Seven hourse of "flow." When it was done, it was 3 plus in the morning. Did not even shower - just washed the clay off my hands, legs and feet and changed into a fresh singlet and shorts. Tired, but satisfied. I wrote seven 'hourse' unconsciously. Haha.

Anyway, here's the process:

1. armature

2. rendering it with white air-dry clay

And the rest is

3. sculpting,
4. rendering the details,
5. refining, comparing it with a picture which i took from the net, refining,
6. waiting for it to dry,
7. refining,
8. rendering the details. There you are.

JOY!

Horses

I love horses and watching their every movement. Horses are definitely created by God. How do i know? Well, for some creatures like the iguana and monitor lizards and some other creepy crawlies which i still have a little doubt once in a blue moon, the magnificence of the horse, the movement, the sheen, the grace, the mane flying in the wind as it gallops and the gentle, understanding stare of its eyes will prove every critic beyond the shadow of any doubt.

I like to draw the head of horse and yes, i have always wanted to do a horse head in clay. Finally i summoned enough courage and inspiration to embark on my second horse project. It is almost completed. Wait for the pics. Enjoy these pics first ok?

If you, like me, like horses, try this site for a screensaver download of this magnificent creature.

Preparing your air-dry clay for sculpting

The new year is a good time for taking up a new hobby. Why not try clay? You just need a piece of ordinary plastic board, a pack of air-dry clay (featured here is a good brand called Jovi), and some water. It's a wholesome activity which the entire household can indulge in. You can spend a few good hours over a weekend sculpting something that you like, let it dry over Saturday and paint it on Sunday!

Throwing the clay is a good way to prepare your clay, which is just taken fresh out of the wrapper, for use. However, managing Jumping Clay is slightly different. As Jumping Clay has synthetic qualities, you need to remove the creases by rolling it. See the two videos on how to manage the two different types of clay.

A new year, a new board (game)

A new year is a physical reminder that the old is past and the new is here. It is a chance to metaphorically speaking, write afresh on a new piece of paper. It is also not unlike a game board that has no designs - we write it ourselves. So how we write it depends on our wisdom, experience and how situations are presented to us. I hope 2010 is a year of greater listening to God.

To all my friends - Have a great year ahead and i hope to your board is filled with wisdom, joy and peace!

Farewell 2009; Welcome 2010

Good morning, yesterday
You wake up and time has slipped away
And suddenly it's hard to find
The memories you left behind
Remember, do you remember

The laughter and the tears
The shadows of misty yesteryears
The good times and the bad you've seen
And all the others in between
Remember, do you remember
The times of your life (do you remember)....

I play Paul Anka's song in the recesses of my ever-present consciousness as i look back at 2009. I thank God that 2009 was a year of possibilities and lessons learnt. I also learnt that i can construe an opportunity as a possibility but only with the Inner Peace will the opportunity be touched and sanctioned by God - Otherwise it is just a human possiblity. In other words, with a positive paradigm one can see any event as an opportunity but with the Inner Peace from God, one can sense and sieve out an opportunity from a God-provided one - one that brings all glory back to God.
